A still from Zareen and Ayaan's wedding

Congratulations on your engagement! This exciting time marks the beginning of your journey towards married life, and with it comes the exhilarating task of planning your wedding. This comprehensive checklist will guide you through every step.

Before You Begin:

  • Set a Budget: This is crucial for making informed decisions throughout the planning process. Be realistic and consider contributions from family if applicable.

  • Choose Your Wedding Date: Consider factors like seasonality, venue availability, and potential conflicts for guests before finalizing your date.

  • Guest List: Determine the number of guests you can realistically accommodate within your budget and venue limitations.

  • Hire an Event Organizer: Having one helps you eliminate all the hassles and lets you focus on the big picture.

12 Months Out:

  • Venue Search: Research potential ceremony and reception locations based on your guest count, desired amenities, and budget.

  • Attire Shopping: Start browsing and potentially trying on wedding attire for both the bride and groom. Consider alterations and accessory shopping later.

9-10 Months Out:

  • Book Key Vendors: Secure the services of your photographer, videographer, caterer, DJ/band, and officiant.

  • Create a Wedding Digital Platform: Share information about your wedding with guests, including the date, location, and RSVP details. Instagram’s the current easiest platform.

6-8 Months Out:

  • Send Save-the-Dates: Inform guests about your wedding date well in advance, especially if your wedding is far away or during peak travel season.

  • Book Transportation: Arrange transportation for the wedding party and any guests needing assistance.

  • Finalize Ceremony Details: Meet with your officiant and those-in-charge to discuss readings and ceremony flow.

4-5 Months Out:

  • Wedding Invitations: Finalize invitation wording and design, and send them out 6-8 weeks before the wedding.

  • Book Hair & Makeup Artists: Secure stylists for your wedding day look and schedule trial sessions if desired.

  • Plan the Honeymoon: Book flights, accommodations, and activities for your romantic getaway.

2-3 Months Out:

  • Order Wedding Cake & Favors: Choose and finalize your cake design and any wedding favors you'd like to offer guests.

  • Schedule Rehearsal Dinner: Plan and book a dinner for the wedding party and close family the night before the wedding.

  • Finalize Décor & Rentals: Confirm rentals for tables, chairs, linens, lighting, and any other decorative elements. Your wedding decorator will take of all these details.

1 Month Out:

  • Confirm Final Details with Vendors: Reconfirm arrangements and logistics with all vendors involved in your wedding day.

  • Schedule Beauty Appointments: Book final appointments for hair, makeup, and any spa treatments you desire.

  • Prepare Wedding Attire: Pick up your wedding attire and ensure all alterations are complete.

1 Week Out:

  • Delegate Tasks: Assign specific responsibilities to trusted individuals to help ensure a smooth wedding day.

  • Pack for Honeymoon: Assemble your luggage and any travel documents needed for your honeymoon trip.

  • Relax and Enjoy: Take time to de-stress and spend quality time with loved ones before the big day.

Beyond the Wedding:

  • Send thank-you notes: Express your gratitude to your guests for their presence and gifts within 3 months of the wedding.

  • Preserve your memories: Organize photos, videos, and other keepsakes from your wedding day.

  • Start your married life together: Begin your journey as a married couple, cherishing the memories of your special day and building a beautiful future together.

Remember, this checklist is a guide, and your wedding should be a reflection of your unique love story. Prioritize what matters most to you both, and don't hesitate to customize this plan to fit your individual needs and preferences. Congratulations again, and best wishes for a joyous and unforgettable wedding celebration!
